H5N1 avian influenza and Parkinson’s disease
According to National academy science, researches reported that at least one strain of the H5N1 avian influenza virus increased risk for Parkinson disease.
At least one strain of the H5N1avian influenza virus leaves survivors at significantly increased risk for Parkinson’s disease and possibly other neurological problems later in life, according to new research from St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.According to this research 17% has lost the same neurons that was lost in Parkinson who has suffered form H5N1. Researcher said that this avian flu does not directly cause Parkinson disease but does more susceptible. Flu primarily cause the respiratory disease but indirect evidence shows that it also cause neurological problem like as encephalitis and later life it may be the risk for Parkinson disease . Researches found evidence that this virus led to production of a protein that is found in the brain cell of individual with Parkinson diseases. The protein named alpha- synuclein collected in avian virus infected cells throughout the brain, including the midbrain where dopamine producing cells are located.
