Webmed or American Diabetes Association?

In a diabetic patient, what happens if he takes alcohol?
While surfing through the net, i found two debatable articles, which according to Webmed, drinking alcohol in people with diabetes can cause your blood sugar to rise, and according to American Diabetes Association Alcohol can cause hypoglycemia shortly after drinking and for 8-12 hours after drinking.
so which one is the correct one?

kocis…i think the effect of alcohol on blood sugar comes from its effect on the ability of the liver to produce glucose.
Alcohol inhibits glucose production at moderate amounts, and nearly stops it at high concentrations. So, it lowers the blood sugar level
and can synergisticly increase or prolong the effect of insulin.
SO its mean its cause the hypoglycemia..according to american Diabetes Association, is it right?
i think it depends on dose(and even speed of intake) of alcohol.”alcohol have beneficial effect for diabetic patients in low to moderate dose.but it does not mean that we should counsel patients to drink more alcohol”it is a point i had found somewhere in past.
well, here are few points why alcoholic(esp diabetic) can get hypoglycemia;
a)alcohol inhibts gluconeogenesis
b)alcohol increases insulin sensitivity
c)alcohol inhibits growth hormone synthesis especially in early morning
d)generally,while taking alcohol, people drink it without meal/snacks.so there is less food particles in GI tract which may cause hypoglycemia by direct effect(less food) or by indirect effect(increasing rapid absorption of alcohol).
