Our lifestyles are getting unhealthier by the day. We tend to ignore and overlook some of the most basic steps to maintain physical fitness. Of course considering the amount of rat race that we are in, it becomes pretty hard to take proper care of yourself. Moreover stress, continuous tension, high targets set in our professional environment and high expectations of the personal environment leads us to a state of unhealthy living. In our frenzy to perform to the highest of standards we commonly neglect the most important part of our lives- our health. But what we are not realizing is that by losing health what we are ultimately doing is hampering our performance in the long run.

Some symptoms of loss of physical fitness are felt, like feeling fatigued and tired accompanied by negative emotions like depression anxiety etc. There are other symptoms that are manifest on the body like losing weight, dry eyes, chapped lips, skin problems etc. However this neglect of health is not always our fault. Most of the times, we are living in the unhealthiest of situations like our work place. Often the work place does not have proper ventilation etc. To make the situations comfortable the offices use air conditioners in the summers and heat generator in the winters. This further, compromises on the proper and effective air circulation of the room. Not to mention the polluted environment that we have created is not really helping.

But what can we do to maintain the highest of health standards for ourselves? The first step is to have a proper, healthy and balanced diet. A balanced diet is one that supplements food from every food group in the right proportion. This allows all our internal organs to function efficiently. Once our internal organs are working effectively our skin starts showing the signs of health with a natural glow. Other minor problems like dry eyes, cracked feet, chapped lips, loss of appetite etc will take care of themselves.

Along with a good diet it is essential that you get yourself involved with a regular workout regime. You do not necessarily have to join a gym or yoga classes. Simple steps like cycling to work or walking to the market place can be taken for the sake of physical fitness. If you can mange time then a little bit of meditation helps you a long way to deal with stress and anxiety. Our health is our real wealth. Therefore it is of utmost importance that we take care of it and preserve it in the best possible way.

These days most people prefer to move from the usual allopathic medicines and choose alternative medicines instead. One of the most popular and sought after alternative method of healing is aromatherapy. What exactly is aroma therapy? As the name suggests this method uses the different aromas and vapors from natural products to deal with a common problems. In fact using Aromatherapy oil has been practiced since the time of ancient civilizations. This unique way of healing makes use of scents from flowers and plant extracts. Well what aromatherapy aims to do is to refresh you by awakening your senses. However as said earlier it also helps you tackle with pain or common regular illness.

In fact the popularity of Aromatherapy is reaching such heights that you will find aromatherapy oils being used in all the spas. These days, people actually look for spas that incorporate the use of aroma therapy. Of course there are a number of ways you could use aromatherapy. You could either get a massage with aromatherapy oil or inhale an aromatic vapor. One of the most convenient ways of aromatherapy is to take a bath with an aromatic solution. Some of the aromatic solutions could also be taken orally.

No matter how modern medicine tries to convince you, one of the best toothache remedies lie in aromatherapy. While modern medicine would end up giving you a painkiller or worse uprooting the tooth altogether, application of aromas have been seen to be successful over time. Let us say you are suffering from toothache, now and then. What would really be the simplest yet effective solution for you? Just get to the market and get some cloves and olive oil. Once you are home blend these two together. This aroma will do the job of an antimicrobial and deal with any kind of fungal infection in the mouth. It is one of the quickest solutions to toothache.

In case you do not like the taste of clove there is another of the popular aromatic toothache remedies- lavender oil. The oil from this plant has been used through history as an anti bacterial remedy. Lavender oil also has antiseptic and anti- inflammatory properties. This means that lavender fights the pain and the root of the pain. The usage of aromas for the sake of pains like toothache, headache and the like is a pretty common household remedy. History has proven its success. The best thing about this method is that there are no side effects.

Drunk Driving is considered a serious offense in all the States and the level of intoxication is determined by the level of alcohol in the blood, technically known as Blood Alcohol Content or BAC. This level directly depends on the number of drinks taken by a person before driving a vehicle, which starts showing its effects within a few minutes or an hour, depending on the absorption rate of the individual. Increasing levels of blood alcohol concentration impair a persons ability to drive properly, and also hampers his/her ability to be in charge of a motor vehicle, leading to a possibility of arrest for drunk driving. The allowed legal limit for BAC differs slightly from one state to the other, but each state has severe punishments for offenders.

What is the legal allowed limit for BAC?

All states have DUI laws which lay down the legal allowed limits of Blood Alcohol Levels, and anyone exceeding those limits is charged and arrested for drunk driving. Usually the allowed “per se” limit for BAC is set to less than 0.08% in most states and less than 0.04% for commercial drivers. All states follow a “Zero Tolerance” policy for under age drivers, those below the age of 21 years and any one found drunken is charged and arrested immediately. Similarly, there are harsher DUI laws for extremely high levels of BAC, such as those exceeding 0.15% and may be considered as Felony DUI in some states.

According to research and studies, 0.08% may still be a very high limit to be considered as “legally intoxicated” because the effects of alcohol vary from person to person. Some people may show signs of impairment with BAC levels as low as 0.02%, whereas others may show signs of impairment with BAC levels of 0.05% or 0.08%. Despite this, research shows that the probability of being involved in a crash or accident increases rapidly with BAC levels 0.02% or higher.

How is BAC measured?

Usually, when a person is stopped as a suspect for drunk driving, the police carry a breath test to determine the Blood Alcohol Concentration. A breathalyzer is used to do it, which is a battery-operated device that takes samples of the breath of the suspect and uses a chemical reaction involving alcohol to produce a colour change and give an estimate of BAC. A BAC Datamaster, Intoxylizer, Intoximeter or a PBT device may be used instead which are all devices to test the alcohol levels. The police may ask for a saliva, urine or blood sample, and the suspect is usually taken to the nearest hospital or to a DUI checkpoint nearby to take samples. A blood test is considered to be most accurate to determine the alcohol levels of a person and is carried out by a qualified medical professional.

The law enforcement official may use various field sobriety tests to check the reflexes of the suspect, but these tests are not used to check the level of alcohol in the blood. A Standardized Field Sobriety Test (SFST) consists of a series of three tests including the horizontal gaze nystagmus, the walk-and-turn and the one-leg stand. A person who fails a field sobriety test but passes the breathalyzer test may still be convicted and charged with a DUI offense.

How to ensure your BAC is under control?

You may be able to get an estimate of your Blood Alcohol Level based on the number of drinks you have taken, and by using tools such as a BAC Calculator. Usually, an average 170-pound man must have more than four drinks in an hour on an empty stomach to reach a 0.08% BAC. On the other hand, an average 137-pound woman will need to take three drinks in an hour on an empty stomach to reach and exceed the allowed legal limit of 0.08% BAC. However, the exact number varies from person to person, when other factors come into play, such as a persons metabolism, weight, and amount of food eaten with the drink and so on. So if you plan to party out and drive back home, your best bet would be not to drink and drive at all; and if you plan to take a drink or two, make sure you ask someone to drive you back home or hire a cab.

Holi, also called the Festival of Colours, is a spring festival celebrated by Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs, Jains and others. It is primarily observed in India, Nepal, Srilanka, Pakistan Bangladesh, and countries with large Indic diaspora populations, such as Suriname, Guyana, South Africa, Trinidad, UK, USA, Mauritius, and Fiji. In West Bengal of India and Bangladesh it is known as Dolyatra(Doul Jatra) or Basanta-Utsav (“spring festival”). The most celebrated Holi is that of the Braj region, in locations connected to the god Krishna- Mathura, Vrindavan, Nandagaon, and Barsana. These places have become tourist destinations during the festive season of Holi, which lasts here to up to sixteen days .

The main day, Holi, also known as Dhulheti, Dhulandi or Dhulendi, is celebrated by people throwing colored powder and colored water at each other. Bonfires are lit the day before, also known as Holika Dahan (burning of Holika) or Chhoti Holi(little Holi). The bonfires are lit in memory of the miraculous escape that young Prahlad accomplished when Demoness Holika, sister of Hiranyakashipu, carried him into the fire. Holika was burnt but Prahlad, a staunch devotee of god Vishnu, escaped without any injuries due to his unshakable devotion. Holika Dahan is referred to as Kama Dahanam in Andhra Pradesh.

Holi is celebrated at the end of the winter season on the last full moon day of the lunar month Phalguna(February/March), (Phalgun Purnima), which usually falls in the later part of February or March.

Which one is the leading cause of death? Cancer, tuberculosis, HIV aids , traffic accident and so on.. if you are thinking like this you are wrong…the right answer is doctors ,confused! According to different journals medical error likes unnecessary surgery, infections in hospitals, adverse effect of drugs, is the third leading cause of death in different country.

According to journals near about 999,936 people dies per year only in USA due to medical error so how much people dies form medical error in whole world we can’t imagine. So I have a question to all, what’s more dangerous, the disease or the treatment?

The relationship is the cornerstone of the medical system — nobody can be helped if doctors and patients aren’t getting along. But increasingly, research and anecdotal reports suggest that many patients don’t trust doctors. About one in four patients feel that their physicians sometimes expose them to unnecessary risk, according to data from a Johns Hopkins study published this year in the journal Medicine. And two recent studies show that whether patients trust a doctor strongly influences whether they take their medication. So my curiosity is how to improve the relationship between doctor and patient? So it is easy to cure disease.

Within the United States, Congress is similarly fighting over legislation on climate change. The House in the summer of 2009 passed a bill outlining a cap-and-trade system that could, over the next few decades, lead to an early end to conventional use of coal and oil, fuels that have underpinned prosperity and growth for more than a century. But between stiff opposition from energy interests and the overwhelming distractions of health care reform and the economy, the legislation has stalled in the Senate.

In international discussions over climate, President Obama has urged other countries not to be discouraged by the stasis on Capitol Hill, pointing to big investments in energy efficiency, solar and wind power and his move to restrict greenhouse gases using environmental regulations.

In the meantime, recent fluctuations in temperature, seized on by opponents of emissions restrictions, have intensified the public debate over how urgently to respond. The long-term warming trend over the last century has been well-established, and scientists immersed in studying the climate are projecting substantial disruption in water supplies, agriculture, ecosystems and coastal communities. Passionate activists at both ends of the discourse are pushing ever harder for or against rapid action, while polls show the public locked durably in three camps – with roughly a fifth of American voters eager for action, a similar proportion aggressively rejecting projections of catastrophe and most people tuned out or confused.

Background

Scientists learned long ago that the earth’s climate has powerfully shaped the history of the human species — biologically, culturally and geographically. But only in the last few decades has research revealed that humans can be a powerful influence on the climate as well.

A growing body of scientific evidence indicates that since 1950, the world’s climate has been warming, primarily as a result of emissions from unfettered burning of fossil fuels and the razing of tropical forests. Such activity adds to the atmosphere’s invisible blanket of carbon dioxide and other heat-trapping “greenhouse” gases. Recent research has shown that methane, which flows from landfills, livestock and oil and gas facilities, is a close second to carbon dioxide in impact on the atmosphere.

That conclusion has emerged through a broad body of analysis in fields as disparate as glaciology, the study of glacial formations, and palynology, the study of the distribution of pollen grains in lake mud. It is based on a host of assessments by the world’s leadingorganizations of climate and earth scientists.

In the last several years, the scientific case that the rising human influence on climate could become disruptive has become particularly robust.

Some fluctuations in the Earth’s temperature are inevitable regardless of human activity — because of decades-long ocean cycles, for example. But centuries of rising temperatures and seas lie ahead if the release of emissions from the burning of fossil fuels and deforestation continues unabated , according to theIntergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. The panel shared the2007 Nobel Peace Prize with former Vice President Al Gore for alerting the world to warming’s risks.

Despite the scientific consensus on these basic conclusions, enormously important details remain murky. That reality has been seized upon by some groups and scientists disputing the overall consensus and opposing changes in energy policies.

For example, estimates of the amount of warming that would result from a doubling of greenhouse gas concentrations (compared to the level just before the Industrial Revolution got under way in the early 19th century) range from 3.6 degrees to 8 degrees Fahrenheit. The intergovernmental climate panel said it could not rule out even higher temperatures). While the low end could probably be tolerated, the high end would almost certainly result in calamitous, long-lasting disruptions of ecosystems and economies, a host of studies have concluded. A wide range of economists and earth scientists say that level of risk justifies an aggressive response.

Other questions have persisted despite a century-long accumulation of studies pointing to human-driven warming. The rate and extent at which sea levels will rise in this century as ice sheets erode remains highly uncertain, even as the long-term forecast ofcenturies of retreating shorelines remains intact. Scientists are struggling more than ever to disentangle how the heat building in the seas and atmosphere will affect the strength and number of tropical cyclones. The latest science suggests there will be more hurricanes and typhoons that reach the most dangerous categories of intensity, but fewer storms over all.

Steps Toward a Response

The debate over such climate questions pales next to the fight over what to do, or not do, in a world where fossil fuels still underpin both rich and emerging economies. With the completion of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change at the Earth Summit in 1992, the world’s nations pledged to avoid dangerously disrupting the climate through the buildup of greenhouse gases, but they never defined how much warming was too much.

Nonetheless, recognizing that the original climate treaty was proving ineffective, all of the world’s industrialized countries except for the United States accepted binding restrictions on their greenhouse gas emissions under the Kyoto Protocol, which was negotiated in Japan in 1997. That accord took effect in 2005 and its gas restrictions expire in 2012. (The United States signed the treaty, but it was never submitted for ratification, in the face of overwhelming opposition in the Senate because the pact required no steps by China or other fast-growing developing countries.

It took until 2009 for the leaders of the world’s largest economic powers to agree on a dangerous climate threshold: an increase of 2 degrees Celsius (3.6 degrees Fahrenheit) from the average global temperature recorded just before the Industrial Revolution kicked into gear. (This translates into an increase of 1.3 degrees Fahrenheit above the Earth’s current average temperature, about 59 degrees).

The Group of 8 industrial powers also agreed this year to a goal of reducing global emissions 50 percent by 2050, with the richest countries leading the way by cutting their emissions 80 percent. But they did not set a baseline from which to measure that reduction, and so far firm interim targets – which many climate scientists say would be more meaningful — have not been defined.

At the same time, fast-growing emerging economic powerhouses, led by China and India, STILL oppose taking on mandatory obligations to curb their emissions. They say they will do what they can to rein in growth in emissions – as long as their economies do not suffer. The world’s poorest countries, in the meantime, are seeking payments to help make them less vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, given that the buildup in climate-warming gases so far has come mainly from richer nations. Such aid has been promised since the 1992 treaty and a fund was set up under the Kyoto Protocol. But while tens of billions of dollars are said to be needed, only millions have flowed so far.

In many ways, the debate over global climate policy is a result of aglobal “climate divide.” Emissions of carbon dioxide per person range from less than 2 tons per year in India, where 400 million people lack access to electricity, to more than 20 in the United States. The richest countries are also best able to use wealth and technology to insulate themselves from climate hazards, while the poorest, which have done the least to cause the problem, are the most exposed.

In Copenhagen this December, negotiators had planned to try to settle on the basic terms of two new global climate agreements. One would renew the commitments of countries bound by the Kyoto emissions limits; the other would rein in emissions of all countries to varying extents, depending on their wealth and emissions history. Given the many competing interests, and the reality that any big emissions shifts would have substantial economic impacts, the negotiations have been called one of the most complex diplomatic challenges ever.

In the meantime, Democratic leaders in the United States Senate are trying to follow the lead of the House of Representatives by securing passage of a bill aiming to sharply cut greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The chief mechanism would be a “cap and trade” system that sets a gradually declining ceiling for over all emissions. Companies and institutions could buy and sell credits from one another as a way to curb emissions at the lowest cost. Companies that made deeper cuts than required could sell credits to companies that fell short of their targets.

But a national preoccupation with the slow economy and competing issues, led by health care, threaten to delay or weaken such legislation. Another impediment is the shortage of money flowing to basic energy research and large-scale demonstrations of non-polluting energy technology. While the Obama administration and Congress directed some stimulus money toward such efforts, such spending comes only after decades of declining investment in these areas.

President Obama came into office vowing to take swift action on climate change, and under him, the Environmental Protection Agency has declared that it will regulate carbon dioxide emissions. But with the cap-and-trade bill facing an uncertain future in the Senate, his ability to take big steps on the issue has been severely constrained, and without significant actions by the United States, China and India had made it clear they would remain on the sidelines. So three weeks before the Copenhagen session was to begin, he and other leaders gathered for an Asian summit announced that no treaty would be reached this year. Instead, leaders will try to reach a political agreement that could be the basis for new treaty talks in 2010.

In the meantime, a recent dip in emissions caused by the global economic slowdown is almost certain to be followed by a rise, scientists warn, and with population and appetites for energy projected to rise through mid-century, they say the entwined challenges of climate and energy will only intensify.

MEDICAL students have sex with more people than students of any other discipline, a survey has found. A survey of more than 1000 students at Cambridge University found those studying medicine had an average of eight sexual partners in their lives so far. Student union president Mark Fletcher told student newspaper Varsity the results came as no surprise. “It’s obvious that the mathematicians haven’t found the winning formula yet,” Mr Fletcher said. “But it’s good to see that doctors and nurses is still a popular game.” The poll, which was carried out by the newspaper, found theology students had the fewest number of sexual partners with two. Political science students had seven, while those studying history had six partners.
